Redhill String Orchestra

Professional cellist and string instructor Mrs. Tugce Bryant teaches the Redhill String Orchestra at the beginner and intermediate levels for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. The students can choose to play the violin, viola, or cello.

Music lessons set students apart. String lessons are even better.

Take a look at this fun TEDEd video by Anita Collis:

Learning an instrument encourages brain development, discipline, cooperation, and confidence. Music lessons for kids are a great way to give them a boost in both academic performance and life.

The social benefits of learning to play a musical instrument are worth a glance. Here is an article by Mrs. Bryant that dives deep into the specifics of how playing an instrument brings noteworthy contributions to your child's academic performance.

The beginner level class, Andante Strings, is designed for students who have no prior string instrument playing experience. If you are interested in signing your children up for the first year orchestra class, please consider registering for the RHE's Summer Strings Camp. (See below for more information)

The intermediate level class, Allegro Strings, is for students who have taken the Andante Strings class the previous school year or students who have taken 1 year of prior private lessons or equivalent.

Private string instruction is also available at her West Oahu Music School, Cello Academy Hawaii, and Redhill Elementary.

Join Mrs. Tugce Bryant for a 4-week robust string instrument camp! No audition required.

Beginner and intermediate level classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Red Hill Orchestra Room, C-3.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, the string instruments will be divided into 2 categories: Cellos and Violin&Violas. On Fridays, all students will join together for a full orchestra class.

For the program schedule, tuition, and all other details please see the registration flyer on the right-hand side. You can print, fill out, and return the form in an envelope to the RHE library by May 27, 2019. The registration fliers are also available at the front desk in the RHE library.

What is an Instrument Petting Zoo?

Students can listen to and interact with the violin, viola, and cello during the Instrument Petting Zoo. They get to hold and pluck the strings of these similar looking instruments and hear the different sounds they make. Children make personal connections with the instruments during the petting zoo which helps them decide which instrument to play. It is a fun way of introducing children to the world of orchestral instruments.

2019 Instrument Petting Zoo Dates: July 26 & August 2 at 8:30-11:00 am in the orchestra room, C-3.

Instrument Rental

The instrument rent-to-own program, run by Ms. Kathy Sato at Strings for Tomorrow, is also present in the Instrument Petting Zoo and happy to answer all instrument rental-related questions you may have.

String instruments come in various sizes that enable every child to comfortably play whichever instrument they decide to play. During our instrument fitting day, your child will be fitted with the correct size of an instrument according to their height, as well as arm length and hand size.

The instrument fitting day for Fall Semester: August 12, 2019, at 2:30 pm in the Orchestra Room, C-3.

For more information on the instrument rental, please see the Strings for Tomorrow flier on the right-hand side column.
